Computer Ethics/Netiquette

Bynum, Terrell. 2001. Computer and information ethics. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. Available online http://plato.stanford.edu/archives/spr2011/entries/ethics-computer/. Retrieved July 8, 2011.

Abstract:
The realm of computers and technology is a broad topic to deal with. With its overwhelming advancement and use, critical issues and problems pertaining to its regulation need to be addressed. Thus, evolved the concept of "computer ethics." Some of the many concerns that users of information should always consider are intellectual property rights, privacy issues and responsible use of information.
Three Things I Learned From My Reading Assignment:
1. Intellectual Property Rights - protecting and preserving the rights of owners and creators of
information.
2. Privacy concerns - think first before you share your personal information.
3. Responsible use of information.
Application:
As a frequent Internet user, I will be extra careful, cautious and responsible with regard to what I send or share in the web. I will limit those people who will have access to my pictures and videos as well as with my personal and identity information.
As a school librarian, I will orient or educate our students in terms of proper use of the computer and the Internet. I will make sure that they are getting the right information at the right place, at the right time and format. I will also remain keen in observing their attitude towards responsible utilization of information and technology.
